obviously

i am having some trouble at the minute writing. however i am having no problems reading, which is business as usual. so: my favourite books i have read recently/ am reading

kafka on the shore - haruki murakami
recommended by an old friend a long time ago. i finally got round to reading it, and i'm glad i did. haruki murakami writes some characters really well and others not so well, it's weird.

steppenwolfe - herman hesse
i know what you're thinking: don't think that. i'm not an arrogant classical reader type who only reads the culty things. i actually like steppenwolfe. steppenwolfe himself is worryingly similar to me, which i am hoping means i am part wolf.

chopper - mark brandon read
recommended by my friend leo who has the best taste in all things bad taste. chopper read is australia's most notorious killer, which you would think would make him pretty bad to know, but his book is actually quite insightful. the last lines in particular are surprising.

i wanna be your joey ramone - stephaine kuehnert
ok, it is fairly self-indulgent and a bit girly, but it's a good nighttime relaxing read. which, considering my usual reading material, is probably a healthy change for me. just your basic sex-drugs-rock'n'roll teenage rebellion, but with more music and adjectives.

from the velvets to the voidoids - clinton heylin
fairly satisfying analysis of the birth of american punk rock and a deliciously detailed lunge through the punk period. features fun writing cameos from the likes of the stooges and the velvet underground.

i think that's what i've read recently anyway, my propensity to forget things is both alarming and inconvenient. i'm going to go and try and sort out my wardrobe, but really i'm going to watch house.
